New Resident Services Up and Running at the Ellington
Resident Services are up and running at the Ellington! Through a partnership with Home Forward, the Ellington now has a new Resident and Community Services Coordinator on-site, as well as a half-time Youth Services Coordinator from Trash for Peace, an award-winning nonprofit providing weekly hands-on activities with a sustainability focus to youth and families in affordable housing communities.
Residents now have new opportunities to participate in programs and activities that help promote economic mobility and youth engagement, including quarterly energy assistance events in partnership with the Latino Network to receive sizable credits toward their energy bills, plus record expungement clinics, and ongoing after-school programs, arts and crafts, and community events.
New programming will continue rolling out over the Summer, starting with a co-sponsored event this month, bringing Ellington families together with the broader neighborhood for a day of fun at Rose City Park. With the help of a resident volunteer, the Ellington will also serve as a Summer lunch site, host summer reading activities, and a National Night Out celebration. Home Forward will also be working to connect youth to paid SummerWorks internships and establish partnerships to offer Summer camp scholarships.
Looking ahead, residents should see community meetings, a resident newsletter, and more financial empowerment and financial literacy programming. Plans are also in the works to bring a cohort from the University of Portland’s Nursing Program to engage residents in conversations about health and wellness, and be a conduit to primary care.
